In Japan, especially in big cities like Tokyo and Osaka, parking costs are something to consider.

Parking space fees
Parking spaces in Japan can cost anywhere from around10,000 - 30,000 yen, and in some cases even more than 100,000 yen, so you need to consider this as an additional cost on top of your rent.
In apartments, parking spaces are required as a separate contract, and there are cases where parking spaces are not available in the same building even if you rent an apartment. If you drive, it might be a good idea to consider a house with a parking space.
Parking fees when you go out
Parking fees apply even when you're out and about. Generally, parking fees are displayed as 300 yen for 30 minutes and are charged by the hour. Some parking lots have a maximum fee, and some are cheaper depending on the time of day. Be careful, as in urban areas there are parking lots that charge 500 yen for 10 minutes and some that have no maximum fee.
Not only fees, but also...
Other than parking fees, you also have to care about a size of your car. There are many parking lots in urban areas that cannot accommodate large vehicles, so it's a good idea to take this into consideration when choosing a car.
